One realizes that there is no serenity whatsoever in the things that thought has put together of one has gone into it sufficiently intelligently, rationally and sanely to find out; one sees that there is really no structure, either in the future, or in the past, or in the present, philosophical, religious, or ideological, which can give any kind of security whatsoever.

Behold, O monks, this is my last advice to you. All component things in the world are changeable. They are not lasting. Work hard to gain your own salvation.

For us, almost all knowledge is what a Taoist would call conventional knowledge, because we do not feel we can know anything unless we can represent it to ourselves in words, or in some other system of of conventional signs such as notations of mathematics or music.

When you are feeling a well-being, euphoria; remember it.

When you are in misery, in anguish, remember it

In all climates, in all moods — go on remembering it. Soon you will be able to remain centered in it, there will be no need to remember.

And that is the greatest day in one’s life.
